As Groundswell ramps up our fall afterschool programs, we are thrilled to kick off the season with a terrific shout-out on NPR’s All Things Considered for our 2012 mural project in Brownsville, “Yesterday I Was ___, Today I Am ___, Tomorrow I Will Be ___.”
The profile is part of a larger discussion of the New York-based Justice Mapping Center’s efforts to map “million-dollar block,” — areas where more than $1 million is being spent annually to incarcerate the residents of a single census block.
Groundswell’s Making His’tory program for young men is one of several innovative re-entry programs discussed on the show. These re-entry programs, presented in neighborhoods suffering from high incarceration and recidivism rates, make a significant impact on the lives of formerly incarcerated youth and adults in these communities.
