People. Ideas. Networks. Our Untapped Capital?
As the world’s resources are depleted and destroyed, the future of cities around the globe depends on new solutions and approaches. IDEAS CITY, a festival founded by the New Museum, will bring together hundreds of artists, educators, and organizations in May to work together to effect change.
Inspired by this challenge, a team of Groundswell teen artists are investigating the world’s untapped capital. With a monumental wall on the Bowery as a canvas, these emerging artists will envision a new future for New York City during a live mural painting event, presented as part of IDEAS CITY StreetFest 2013.
On Saturday May 4, one hundred participants will “set up shop” to present, interact, and demonstrate their ideas of Untapped Capital for our city. The StreetFest will take place along a circuit of four streets: Bowery, Rivington, Chrystie, and Stanton. Sarah D. Roosevelt Park will also be activated with performances, workshops, and larger-scale participatory installations.
Join teens and Groundswell teaching artists at 273 Bowery between 11am and 6pm for an inaugural painting day with opportunities for community interaction. Stick around to explore hundreds of other performances and participatory installations.
