What happens to a Groundswell mural after the paint dries? 

Last year, Groundswell in collaboration with Ellis Island created a six-part panel series called "Our American Narrative Continues" celebrating the rich history of immigration. The panels were installed in the Ellis Island Museum library.

When asked about the mural's impact since its installation, Ellis Island Interpretative Park Ranger Peter Wong said:

The Groundswell murals have inspired rich conversation that words, alone, cannot express. In a political climate where immigration has been described in such absolute terms, the artwork helps bring people together to discuss ideas of race, class, and identity. Eight months later, the murals continue to help visitors explore the rich narrative of immigration, past and present.

Ellis Island organized a multimedia educational website highlighting the process and design.

Groundswell uses public art as a tool for social change. The rich symbolism behind our murals inspire viewers to have a change of heart and a deeper engagement with important social justice issues.

Community

Groundswell is partnering with Council Member Ritchie Torres and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to create fifteen murals in five housing developments throughout New York City. Read more in this Observer article.

Public Art

In partnership with RFR Holding LLC, a group of skilled Groundswell apprentices led by artist Misha Tyutyunik are creating a monumental mural in Soho with Jeff Koons as an advisor to the project. Check out the DNAinfo and artnet News articles on this collaboration.
